Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (450g)
  • 6 slices turkey bacon chopped
  • 1 small onion finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • cups cheddar cheese shredded, divided
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup heavy cream or whole milk
  • 3 cups pasta elbow macaroni or rotini, cooked
Optional Garnishes
  • sliced pickles
  • diced tomatoes
  • green onions

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Casserole dish
  • Mixing bowls

Method

  1. Cook chopped turkey bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy. Remove to a paper-towel-lined plate, leaving about 1 tablespoon of bacon grease in the pan.
  2. In the same skillet with bacon grease, cook ground beef and diced onion until beef is browned and onion is softened, about 6-8 minutes.
  3. Drain excess fat, then stir in minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, yellow mustard, ketchup, and mayonnaise. Remove from heat.
  4. Mix the beef mixture with cooked pasta, half of the cheddar cheese, and the crispy bacon.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs and heavy cream/milk. Fold this into the pasta mixture.
  6. Transfer to a greased casserole dish and top with remaining cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake until golden and bubbly.
  8. Garnish with optional toppings like sliced pickles, diced tomatoes, and green onions if desired.

Notes

You can customize this casserole in many ways: use regular bacon instead of turkey bacon, swap ground beef for turkey or chicken, or try different cheese varieties like pepper jack or smoked gouda. For a low-carb version, replace pasta with cauliflower florets. Leftovers taste even better the next day and reheat well.
