Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray.
- Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a medium skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the finely chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt to the skillet. Cook, stirring frequently, until the apples are soft—about 5 minutes. Set the mixture aside to cool slightly.
- Take the biscuits out of the can and gently stretch each one into a flat circle.
- Place 1 tablespoon of the cooled apple mixture in the center of each dough circle, then top with a caramel candy.
- Bring the edges of the dough up and around the filling, pinching them firmly together to seal completely.
- Once sealed, gently roll each filled dough ball between your hands to form a smooth ball shape.
- Arrange the prepared dough balls seam-side down in the greased baking dish. Brush the tops with the remaining melted butter.
- Sprinkle the tops with cinnamon sugar, if using, and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Transfer the baked pie bombs to a serving platter and enjoy warm.
Notes
You can use any kind of tart or sweet apple for this recipe—Granny Smith and Honeycrisp both work well. For a richer flavor, drizzle with extra caramel sauce or serve with vanilla ice cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days; reheat gently in the oven or microwave before serving. If you need to prepare in advance, make the apple filling ahead and refrigerate, then assemble and bake just before serving for the best texture. Crescent roll dough or gluten-free biscuit dough can be used as substitutes, though results may vary.
