  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded, divided
  • 32 oz frozen tater tots
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Halal if required
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika optional, for color
  • 2 green onions sliced, optional for garnish

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Large skillet

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, brown ground turkey with diced onion over medium heat until meat is no longer pink (about 7-8 minutes). Drain excess grease.
  3. Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, 1 cup of shredded cheddar, salt, black pepper, and paprika until well combined.
  5. Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  6. Arrange frozen tater tots in a single layer over the top.
  7. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes, until tater tots begin to turn golden brown.
  8. Sprinkle remaining cup of cheddar cheese over the top and return to oven for about 5 minutes until cheese melts completely.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

Feel free to substitute ground beef or chicken for the turkey. For a vegetarian option, use black beans or plant-based meat alternatives. The cream of mushroom soup can be replaced with cream of chicken or celery soup. Add frozen vegetables for extra nutrition, or spice it up with diced jalapeños or hot sauce. Different cheese varieties like pepper jack or monterey jack work well too.
