Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded medium cheddar cheese divided
  • 20 ounces frozen tater tots
  • 1/2 yellow onion minced, optional

  1. Heat the oven to 425°F (218°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the sliced hot dogs, both cans of chili, and 1 cup of shredded cheddar until combined.

Notes

You can substitute turkey or plant-based hot dogs for beef to suit different dietary needs. For extra spice, add hot sauce or diced jalapeños to the chili mixture before baking. This casserole can be assembled up to 24 hours ahead—store the filling and add the frozen tater tots just before baking to keep the topping crisp. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days; reheat in the microwave or cover and bake until piping hot. Serve with a simple green salad, pickles, or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
