Method
- Chill two tall glasses in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
- Optional: Create a spooky rim by dipping the edge of each glass in chocolate syrup, then immediately into red sanding sugar. Return glasses to refrigerator for 5 minutes to set.
- Add 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream (about 1/2 cup) to each chilled glass.
- Tilt each glass at a slight angle and slowly pour 1 cup of well-chilled cherry soda over the ice cream. The slow pour creates a dramatic foam effect.
- Drizzle 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup over each float, allowing it to cascade down the sides for a blood-like effect.
- For extra dramatic effect, spoon 1-2 tablespoons of grenadine or cherry syrup down the inside of each glass to create crimson streaks.
- Garnish with maraschino cherries or gummy fangs on the rim if desired.
- Serve immediately with both straws and spoons.
Notes
For a dairy-free version, substitute with high-quality plant-based vanilla ice cream - oat or coconut varieties work particularly well. The key to achieving the dramatic, frothy effect is keeping your soda icy cold before pouring.
Try different variations like the Black Forest Float (using cola and cherry juice topped with chocolate shavings) or the Batwing Blackberry (blackberry soda with raspberry sorbet) for a different spooky experience.
These floats are best enjoyed immediately after preparation as the ice cream will gradually melt into the soda.
