Method
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with 1/4 cup flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with your hands until just combined.
 - Form the mixture into four square patties, being careful not to overwork the meat which can make them tough.
 - Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and brown the patties on both sides until they develop a nice crust.
 - Add the sliced onion to the pan and sauté until translucent and slightly caramelized.
 - Remove both patties and onions from the pan and set aside.
 - In the same pan with the browned bits, whisk together 1/4 cup flour and 1 cup water until smooth.
 - Add the beef bouillon cubes and stir continuously as the mixture thickens. Add a few drops of browning sauce for color if desired.
 - Season the gravy with salt and pepper to taste.
 - Return the patties and onions to the pan, nestling them into the gravy.
 - Let everything simmer together for 30-45 minutes, adding small amounts of water if the gravy becomes too thick.
 - Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

Notes
For the best results, don't overwork the meat mixture when forming patties as this can make them tough. The square shape is traditional for this dish and somehow enhances the flavor experience.
This dish reheats beautifully, making it perfect for meal prep. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. When reheating, add a splash of water or beef broth to thin the gravy if needed.
For a complete meal, serve with a green vegetable like steamed broccoli or green beans to balance the richness of the dish.
