  • 1/2 cup honey good quality
  • 3 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons cooking sherry
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Garlic press

Method

  1. Combine soy sauce, honey, lemon juice, and water in a small saucepan.
  2. Add ketchup and cooking sherry, whisking to incorporate all ingredients evenly.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and black sesame seeds.
  4. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally until it begins to simmer.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 3-5 minutes until the sauce slightly thickens.
  6. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before using as a glaze or dipping sauce.

Notes

This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. For a thicker consistency, simmer the sauce longer. For a spicier version, add a teaspoon of sriracha or red pepper flakes.
To use as a wing sauce, toss with freshly fried or baked wings while the sauce is still warm. For a glaze on salmon or chicken, brush on during the last few minutes of cooking.
