Ingredients

For the Hot Dog Mummies
  • 1 8-ounce can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 10 hot dogs
  • ketchup for serving
  • mustard for serving

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Sharp knife or pizza cutter
  • Oven

Method

  1. Heat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into 10 triangles. Slice each triangle lengthwise into 3 strips.
  3. Wrap 3 strips of dough around each hot dog, leaving a small space for the face. Slightly stretch dough as you wrap to make sure it sticks.
  4. Arrange wrapped hot dogs on the lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is puffed and golden brown and the hot dogs are heated through.
  6. Cool briefly, then use ketchup and mustard to decorate faces on the mummies before serving.

Notes

For a vegetarian version, substitute plant-based hot dogs. You can use puff pastry or pizza dough if crescent rolls aren’t available, but crescent dough is easier to wrap thinly. Wrap the mummies up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake; add a few extra minutes if baking from cold. Leftovers keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or can be frozen; reheat in the oven to keep the dough crisp.
