Ingredients

  • ½ cup strong cold brew coffee or 2 shots espresso topped up with cool water
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup Grade A preferred, adjusted to taste
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼-⅓ cup cream or milk half-and-half for richness, or oat milk for dairy-free
  • Ice cubes
  • Donut crumbs for rimming the glass, optional
  • Cinnamon or extra maple drizzle for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Glass
  • Small plate
  • Spoon

Method

  1. If using the donut crumb rim, spread donut crumbs on a small plate. Brush the edge of your 16-20 oz glass with maple syrup, then dip it into the crumbs.
  2. Place the rimmed glass in the freezer for about 5 minutes to set while preparing the rest of the drink.
  3. In a separate cup, combine the cold brew coffee (or espresso with water), maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir until well mixed.
  4. For a frothy texture, you can alternatively shake these ingredients with 2-3 ice cubes instead of stirring.
  5. Fill your glass with ice, then pour in the coffee mixture.
  6. Top with your chosen milk or cream. For a layered effect, pour the milk over the back of a spoon.
  7. Optional: Finish with a light dusting of cinnamon or an extra drizzle of maple syrup.
  8. Serve with a straw to preserve the rimmed edge.

Notes

For the best flavor, use real maple syrup rather than pancake syrup. The quality of your cold brew matters - a smooth, less acidic brew creates the best base. This drink can be made dairy-free by using oat milk, which pairs beautifully with the maple flavor.
To make ahead, prepare the coffee mixture the night before and store in the refrigerator. Just add ice and milk when ready to serve. For a hot version in colder months, use hot coffee and steamed milk instead of cold brew and ice.
