Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 4 tsp minced ginger
  • 6 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 Noodles for serving (type of your choice)
For the Sauce
  • 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 6 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
For Serving
  • 4 green onions diced
  • toasted sesame seeds

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Pasta pot
  • Colander
  • Wooden spoon or tongs

Method

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef along with the ginger and garlic, breaking up the meat as it browns. Once the beef is fully cooked, drain off any excess fat.
  2. Add the soy sauce, beef broth, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, red pepper flakes, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
  3. Meanwhile, cook the noodles of your choice in a separate pot according to the package instructions.
  4. Drain the cooked noodles, then add them straight into the skillet with the beef and sauce mixture.
  5. Toss everything together and let it cook for a few minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats both the noodles and beef evenly.
  6. Finish by garnishing with diced green onions and a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

You can use almost any type of noodle you have on hand for this dish, such as lo mein, udon, or spaghetti. To make it spicier, add extra red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha. Substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef if desired, but consider adding a little oil if using very lean proteins. The noodles will absorb more sauce as they sit, so leftovers may be less saucy; simply reheat them with a splash of beef broth or water to refresh the texture. For best results, avoid freezing as the noodles can turn soft or mushy after thawing.
