Bake the Cake
- Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 6-inch cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper. For a layered cake, divide the batter between two pans.
- Mash the bananas in a large bowl until mostly smooth.
- Add eggs, applesauce, melted coconut oil, and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas. Whisk until everything is well blended.
- Mix in the almond flour, arrowroot starch, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Stir just until the mixture comes together; don't overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth out the top.
- Bake for 28–32 minutes. Check that the center is just set and a toothpick or skewer comes out mostly clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 20 minutes. Then, move it to a wire rack and allow it to cool completely before adding frosting.
Prepare the Frosting & Assemble
- Place the cream cheese in a stand mixer and beat on high for 30 seconds.
- Add the Greek yogurt and vanilla extract to the bowl. Whip everything together until smooth and fully combined.
- Frost the cooled cake as desired and serve right away.

Notes
For best results, use very ripe bananas covered in brown spots to maximize natural sweetness. Cool the cake completely before frosting so the topping stays firm. The cake can be baked up to two days in advance, then wrapped and refrigerated; frost just before serving for the freshest taste. Store frosted cake in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Dairy-free frosting is possible with dairy-free cream cheese and coconut yogurt, though texture may be slightly thinner. This cake is mildly sweet and perfect for babies; adults who enjoy banana bread will like it, too.
