Ingredients

  • 4 cups oyster crackers
  • 4 tablespoons halal butter or oil melted
  • 2 tablespoons Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest optional
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley finely chopped, optional

Equipment

  • Large baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Small bowl

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and if using, smoked paprika and lemon zest.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, add oyster crackers. Pour melted butter or oil over the crackers and gently toss until evenly coated.
  4. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture over the coated crackers and toss until evenly distributed.
  5. Spread seasoned crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, stirring halfway through for even browning.
  7. If using parsley, sprinkle it over the hot crackers immediately after removing from the oven.
  8. Let cool completely before serving or storing.

Notes

Use fresh oyster crackers for best results as they absorb seasoning better. For variations, try Cajun seasoning instead of Old Bay, or use rice crackers for a gluten-free option. The crackers can be made with olive oil or coconut oil instead of butter. Store in an airtight container once completely cooled. Perfect for soups, as a salad topping, or with dips.
