Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Add 1 tablespoon of flour to the oven cooking bag and shake to coat the inside. This prevents the bag from bursting and helps thicken the gravy.
- Place the floured bag in a 13x9x2 inch baking pan.
- Add the turkey gravy mix packets and water directly into the bag. Gently squeeze to combine the mixture.
- Brush the turkey breast with vegetable oil and season generously with salt and pepper.
- Place the seasoned turkey breast into the prepared bag, then arrange the quartered onions around it.
- Seal the bag with the nylon tie and cut six half-inch slits in the top to allow steam to escape. Tuck the ends of the bag into the pan.
- Bake for 1¼ to 2 hours, until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part reads 170°F.
- Once done, let the turkey rest in the bag for 10 minutes before opening and serving.
- Slice the turkey and serve with the onion-infused gravy that has formed in the bag.
Notes
For best results, use a fresh turkey breast rather than frozen, though either will work well. If using frozen, ensure it's completely thawed before cooking.
If you're sensitive to sodium, look for low-sodium gravy mix options as the packaged mixes can sometimes be quite salty.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. The turkey makes excellent sandwiches the next day!
