  • 1 package refrigerated crescent roll dough 8-count
  • 1 can cherry pie filling about 21 oz
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese softened
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract non-alcoholic
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • 2 tablespoons coarse sugar optional, for topping
For the Optional Glaze
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 teaspoons milk

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Pastry brush

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, mix softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and creamy.
  3. Unroll crescent roll dough and separate into triangles.
  4. Place ½ teaspoon of cream cheese mixture in the center of each triangle.
  5. Top with 1-2 cherries from the pie filling, along with a little sauce.
  6. Fold the corners of each dough triangle over the cherry filling, pinching edges to seal.
  7. Place sealed bites on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Brush tops with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  10. If adding glaze, mix powdered sugar with milk while bites are cooling, then drizzle over the top.

Notes

For best results, use quality cherry pie filling with whole cherries. Make sure cream cheese is fully softened to avoid lumps. These can be made with other pie fillings like blueberry, apple, or strawberry. Add dark chocolate chips under the fruit filling for extra decadence. Puff pastry can be substituted for crescent rolls for extra flakiness.
