Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon instant tea black or decaf
  • ½ cup non-dairy creamer
  • 1 cup powdered milk
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Optional additions
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg optional
  • 1 pinch ground cloves optional
  • 1 pinch black pepper optional, for extra warmth

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Airtight container
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Gather all ingredients and measure them into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are completely uniform and well-blended. This ensures spices are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  3. Transfer the chai mix to an airtight container such as a mason jar.
  4. Label the container with serving instructions: use 2 tablespoons of mix per 8 ounces of hot liquid.
  5. To serve: Stir 2 tablespoons of mix into 8 ounces of hot water until completely dissolved. For a richer version, use hot milk instead of water, or a combination of both.
  6. For iced chai: Dissolve 2 tablespoons of mix in 2-3 tablespoons of hot water, then add cold milk and pour over ice.

Notes

This mix keeps well in your pantry for several months when stored in an airtight container. For a less sweet version, reduce the sugar to 1/3 cup. You can substitute coconut sugar or monk fruit sweetener for regular sugar if desired. For extra creaminess, try replacing some of the powdered milk with powdered coconut milk. This mix makes a wonderful homemade gift - just package in a decorative jar with instructions.
Serve with buttery shortbread cookies, pumpkin bread, or fresh berries for a complete treat experience.
